About Overseer

Overseer is an independent Dota 2 statistics site. It turns public match data into hero builds, tier lists, counters and player profiles that you can read at a glance, so you can prepare for a game, look back at one or simply follow the meta.

What you find here

Hero pages. Every hero has a build for each position with skill order, starting items, core and situational items, talents and the heroes it is strong or weak against.

Meta. Tier lists for all five positions and the heroes with the highest win rates in Divine and Immortal games, next to the changes of the current patch.

Player profiles. Match history, most played heroes, teammates and rank of every player who shares their match data, and a detailed view of each match with the draft, the items and the stats of all ten players.

Esports. The highest rated live games, recent professional matches, pro players by role and the Immortal leaderboard of Europe.

Discord. A free bot that brings profiles, hero builds, counters and the meta into any Discord server.

Where the numbers come from

All statistics come from public Dota 2 match data. Hero builds, tier lists and counters use recent ranked games, by default from the Divine and Immortal brackets, so they follow the current patch closely. The home page also counts games from all ranked brackets and recent professional matches.

Player profiles only show what a player has made public. In Dota 2 this is the option Expose Public Match Data: whoever turns it off keeps their match history private, and Overseer shows no matches for them.

How the numbers are calculated

The win rate is the share of games a hero won. A hero's tier compares its win rate in a position with the average of all heroes played in that position: S+ and S are clearly above the average, D is clearly below it. Heroes with too few games are left out, so a handful of lucky games cannot put a hero at the top.

The matchup advantage shows how much better or worse a hero does against a certain opponent than in an average game. A positive value means the hero wins this matchup more often than usual.

Item and skill builds show what players in high rank games actually buy and level, with how often they do it and how often those games are won. They are a starting point, not a rule: adapt your items to the game in front of you.

How often it updates

Tier lists are recalculated every few hours and hero builds are refreshed regularly. Live games update while you watch, and a new patch shows up on the day it is released.
